Introduction

Human activities have drastically changed the air we breathe by introducing materials into the atmosphere in great quantity. All residents on the planet are inevitably affected by this change (e.g. climate, health effects and crop damage). To protect human health and the environment from the adverse effects of air pollutants, we are developing novel technologies to control the emission of air pollutants from sources or to reduce the exposure to these pollutants. The efforts can be categorized into three areas:

  1. understanding the pollutant formation mechanisms
  2. developing novel processes/materials to capture the emission or to prevent its formation
  3. creating new systems to minimize the exposure to airborne agents.
