avid Mazyck was born December 1, 1971 in WestChester, PA, but lived in NE Pennsylvania until the age of 17. During his school days at Lake-Lehman, David was a member of the cross-country and track teams and played trumpet in the award-winning band. (During 4 of his 6 years the band was Atlantic coast champions).

After graduation from high school, David joined the Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. During Desert Storm, David served as support at Fort Bragg, NC. Upon return to Pennsylvania, David pursued engineering at Penn State where he graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering (1995), an MS in Environmental Engineering (1996), and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering with a minor in Fuel Science (2000).

In 1997, David married his long-term schoolmate Tanya. Upon graduation from Penn State with his Ph.D., David joined the Department of Environmental Engineering Sciences at the University of Florida.
