Graduate
Programs
Graduate programs at the University of Florida are very
flexible and represent independent mastery of a field of
knowledge. Our program and faculty are quite diverse with
opportunities for classes and research in both the sciences and
engineering. Our seven general graduate research and education
areas are:
-
Air
Resources including air pollution control, air quality, and
atmospheric chemistry. Professors Andino, Mazyck, and Wu.
- Bioenviromental Systems including environmental
biogeochemistry, environmental health, environmental toxicology,
and sustainability engineering and industrial ecology. Professors
Bitton, Bonzongo, Delfino, and Lindner.
- Ecological Systems including ecological engineering,
systems ecology, and wetlands, aquatic and estuarine ecology.
Professors Brown, Crisman, and Montague.
- Solid and Hazardous Waste Management including landfill
science and engineering; waste prevention, reduction, and
recycling; management of special wastes; and treatment of
contaminated soil. Professors Annable, Lindner, and Townsend.
- Water Resources including contaminant transport and
fate, decision support systems, ecohydrology and hydrologic
restoration, hydrology, stormwater, and water resources
management. Professors Annable, Crisman, Heaney, Viessman, and
Wise.
- Water Supply and Wastewater Systems including
biological treatment of potable water and wastewater; collection
systems; physico-chemical treatment of potable water and
wastewater; reuse, and water conservation. Professors Chadik,
Heaney, Koopman, Mazyck, and Zoltek.
- Environmental Nanotechnology including aerosols and
environmental toxicology. Professors Andino, Bonzongo, Mazyck, and
Wu.
Graduate students can also combine one or more of the above areas
with specialties in other departments at the University of Florida.
Candidates for the ME/MS degrees must earn a minimum of 30
credits. Doctoral programs require a minimum of 90 credits beyond
the Bachelor of Science degree. The student's Supervisory Committee
has the responsibility for approving a plan of study. Each candidate
for the Ph.D. is required to prepare and defend a dissertation that
is acceptable to his/her committee and the Graduate School.
