Three Ways to Apply

There are three ways to obtain application materials and submit the application (see chart below). Each of these requires the same information and supporting materials. Correctly completed applications are given equal consideration regardless of which way they are submitted, however, the on-line method will expedite processing and you are encouraged to use it.

This is a summary; to begin the process go to the appropriate section.

How the Admissions Process Works
Application for admission to Graduate School goes simultaneously to BOTH the UF Office of Admissions and the Department.

Each applicant's file is evaluated by Department Faculty. The applicant's potential for graduate study is determined based on the transcripts, tests scores, letters of recommendation, statement of interest, and acceptance by a Faculty Advisor.

FOR MORE INFO
View the Grad School's "How the Application Process Works"
The Graduate Programs Office maintains an applicant's file for only one year. For applicants who re-apply, an entire application package must be filled out with original documentation.

It is the applicant's responsibility to:

  • Understand minimum requirements and prerequisites
  • Review and understand ALL steps of the process
  • Provide COMPLETE documentation to BOTH UF Admissions and the Department
For additional information on who can apply, see Admission Requirements.

Where to Send Application Materials

Applications, supplementary materials, copies, etc., must be sent to the UF Office of Admissions (two different offices) AND to the Department; International applicants must send additional information to the Office for International Student Services.

Please see the "Where to Send" steps in the appropriate sections of the "Apply On-Line" and "Print from Web" sections for exact addresses and instructions.

How Long Does It Take?

Getting the Materials:
The fastest method is the on-line application. Requesting information from the Department is longer simply because you have to wait for the materials to arrive by mail.

Collecting and Filling out the materials:
The application itself (on-line or otherwise) takes about 45 minutes to complete IF you have all of your information ready. Collecting your supplementary materials may take several hours or days. Review the various sections for details.

Once we have your application:
The Office of Admissions will not start processing your application until your application fee has cleared the bank. The Department does not have access to the materials you send to the Office of Admissions. Once your file has been cleared by the Office of Admissions, and all application materials have been received by the Department, the Department will expedite your file as indicated in the "Critical Dates" section.

NOTE:  Processing times are fastest using the online application!
