Air Resources

Major research activities in the Air Resources program focus on:

  • Characterization of air pollutants: ambient monitoring, methodology and instrumentation development
  • Formation and fates of air pollutants: aerosol science, atmospheric physics and chemistry, air quality modeling
  • Air pollution control: system/process/materials development, aerosol technology
  • Sustainability of air quality, health effects and environmental impact
Research projects in the program have covered a wide range of environments including the ambient, industrial settings (e.g. power plants, manufacture) and indoor air (e.g. space exploration, submarine). An integrated series of courses are offered in this program, including Foundations of Air Pollution, Air Pollution Control Design, Aerosol Mechanics, Atmospheric Dispersion, Adsorption/Absorption Phenomena, Atmospheric Chemistry, Aerosol Physics and Chemistry, Atmospheric Chemistry Modeling, Air Sampling and Instrumental Analysis.
